When completing my mural, I finalized it into two similar but different designs. My original one, the dahlia floral design, represented the community through the flowers. The meaning of the dahlia is strength, and one can feel this strength as one looks back at the mural throughout the workout class. Flowers hold a sense of energy and wellness that help to accentuate the main focus of the mural itself, the “Motivate” neon sign. The second concept also continued with the play of florals and instead features chrysanthemums, violets, and larkspurs. Chrysanthemums symbolize Meghan’s favorite word: joy, violets symbolize humility, and larkspur symbolizes positivity and strong bonds of love. All of these symbolisms make the flowers able to work together on a mural, as each represents some of Meghan’s own values in the company. What makes this design more special, though, is that these are the birth flower’s of Meghan’s children (the months of November, July, and February). This mural with the birth flowers not only represents a unified community through the harmony of the flowers and palm leaves, but also shows Meghan’s own community, her family, the people who inspire and truly motivate her to continue with her passions. Both murals in their similarities feature small lines of text scattered throughout the mural in a very small font with words and phrases of encouragement that “if you read it, it’s a sign that you were meant to see it.” It is an added element that I believe tied both mural designs together, and added more visual hierarchies. The different sizes of the flowers still allow the neon sign to flourish in the middle of the piece. The colors of orange and blue are complementary and bring out the emphasis of color by emotions of ambition, creativity, inspiration, and serenity. Overall, the flowers I believe were a good focus of the mural as they promote aspects of wellness that adds to the values of strength and vitality and the overall message of Meghan Kinsey’s Motivate.
